Christmas from my Couch — Christmas Connection

Christmas from my Couch is back for the 2020 holiday season! This year, I am going beyond Netflix. No movies are off limits! If I watch it, I review it! Each movie will receive a flake rating out of five snowflakes.

SPOILER ALERT: I do not hold back any details of the plot, so if you don’t want the ending ruined for yourself, wait to read this until after you have watched the movie.

It is important to note that this is for FUN. I do not have malicious intentions with posting my opinions of these movies. I am NOT an expert on film, only an expert at sitting on my couch in front of my TV!

Let’s do this!

These reviews were inspired by Alex Stewart of Sassy Confetti. She is reviewing Hallmark Christmas movies on her Instagram, and they are absolute gold!

THE TRAILER

The Plot (and my Unwarranted two cents)

Let’s start with the breakdown…

  • Flight attendant (Sydney) is assigned to an unaccompanied minor (Leah) for a flight to Chicago.
  • Flight attendant plans to fly out to Bali from Chicago.
  • Flight attendant misses her connecting flight because Leah’s father (Jonathan) was running late to the airport.
  • Flight attendant ends up spending Christmas with Jonathan, Leah and their family
  • Jonathan is a reporter and helps Sydney learn about her family for a holiday-centric article he is writing in the paper.
  • Jonathan and Sydney end up falling in love.
Overall, this was a good movie. Similar to my review of A Very Merry Mix-Up, it hits my personal criteria of what makes a Christmas movie worth watching. Most events within reason were realistic. The chemistry between Sydney and Johnathan was a little forced, but it’s not the worst Christmas movie chemistry I have seen.

MY FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS

  1. I just need to know why Sydney is okay with her parent’s love story being written for the public after she spent her whole life wondering about it. Jonathan spends so much of the movie investigating this and I would be so weirded out if I were her! Right?

MY FINAL REVIEW

When push comes to shove, this movie hits all the criteria in my eyes for what makes a Christmas movie good.

Jonathan and Leah celebrate Christmas every day with their family by giving each day a new theme. There are Christmas cookies. There is egg nog. It’s pretty believable and I am on board with that.

I also love that Jonathan was also in That Thing You Do!

Overall, I do think this one is worth watching if you have a Christmas movie bucket list.
