I am absolutely hooked on watching Christmas movies. They are so entertaining and I need to start sharing my reviews on this website. Since they are notoriously cheesy, I am going to watch as many Christmas movies as I can and compare each of them to a type of cheese. I will then rate them out of 5 snowflakes and give each movie a “flake rate” because it wouldn’t be the holiday spirit without it.
SPOILER ALERT: I do not hold back any details of the plot, so if you don’t want the ending ruined for yourself, wait to read this until after you have watched the movie.
It is important to note that this is for FUN. I do not have malicious intentions with posting my opinions of these movies. I am NOT an expert on film, only an expert at sitting on my couch in front of my TV!
These reviews were inspired by Alex Stewart of Sassy Confetti. She is reviewing Hallmark Christmas movies on her Instagram, and they are absolute gold!
Now, without further ado, I present to you my review of A Holiday Engagement.
First of all, this movie has a fantastic cast. The fact that Mona and Chandler’s boss (Friends characters, duh!) are in this movie is just the best.
This movie is the gouda of Christmas movies. Aside from the fact that the storyline itself was pretty gouda (sorry, had to go for the pun when I could!), I thought it was a very mild, yet pungent plot. Like the smooth flavor profile of gouda cheese, the story of Hillary, Jason and David flowed without a hitch. I mean obviously there were hitches in the character relationships due to the nature of Christmas movies, but there wasn’t an unmanageable amount of subplots to process during this film.
I am going to answer my rationale for only giving this movie 3 snowflakes by asking some follow-up questions…
- How did Hillary and David go from business transaction to newlyweds so quickly?
- Where was David’s family at the wedding?
- If David was Jewish, why wasn’t a single person wearing a kippah at the wedding?
- Why was Hillary driving the car, let alone without a seatbelt, after the wedding?
