This is the official list of my favorite burgers in Chicago! This endeavor began with a comment on my friend’s Facebook picture and ended with me continuing to find the best burgers. I have ranked my top 5 burgers and listed my other favorite burgers in ABC order.
If (when) you high-tail it to any of these places after reading this post, be sure to tag me (@alliebahcall) in your food pics so I can obsess over the burgers with you!
5. Little Bad Wolf
1541 West Bryn Mawr Avenue in Andersonville
If you like getting messy with your food, don’t sleep on the Little Bad Wolf burger. I ordered the Bad Burger (two patties with two slices of American cheese, house made pickles, and red onion mayo) then added an egg and onion straws.
4. Au Cheval
800 West Randolph Street in the West Loop
The burger at Au Cheval has city-wide fame, and I think it totally meets the hype. I ordered a single cheeseburger and added an egg. It’s flavorful, it’s greasy, it’s everything. I highly recommend sticking out the wait for a seat at the bar, or just dine at an “off” time so you can hopefully avoid the wait altogether!
3. Ella elli
1349 West Cornelia Avenue in Lakeview
I never expected the burger at a chic place like Ella Elli to be incredible. The Burger Au Poivre with St. Andre triple cream, watercress and cornichons was one of the best burgers I have ever had. That sauce on the left? To die for! Seriously, it was a total game changer for this burger and I have no idea why every burger isn’t paired with such glory.
2. Owen & Engine
2700 North Western Avenue in Logan Square
I raved about this burger in my post about Chicago Restaurant Week at Owen & Engine, and I am going to rave about it again. Nobody does “less is more” quite like Owen & Engine. When you hightail it over to this amazing restaurant, you need to order the burger AS IS. You do not need cheese on this burger. Let me say that again. YOU DO NOT NEED CHEESE ON THIS BURGER. Seriously, the caramelized onions are more than enough! It’s seriously unbelievable.
1. Mott Street
1401 North Ashland Avenue in Wicker Park
This burger was everything. I added an egg because I went to Mott Street during brunch and adding an egg just seemed like the right thing to do, okay? There are A TON of toppings on this burger and Mott Street totally nails the execution of a perfect burger. I was obsessed. You cannot go to Mott Street and not order this burger. I absolutely love it.
